Turning the sword in the bind, keeping blade contact, to bring the point or edge to a new opening.
Winden is the characteristic bind-work of the tradition. Without leaving contact, you rotate the sword, usually raising the hilt into or dropping it into , so that your stays on their blade while your point turns toward a new opening.
It is the standard answer when the opponent is hard in the bind. The glosses count eight windings (upper and lower, left and right, from each side), each ending in a thrust, cut or slice.
