Step 1

A point on your face

The opponent stands in right : hands beside the temple, point aimed at your face, ready to thrust. You are in at the edge of measure. Their guard threatens with the shortest motion there is, so whatever you do must deal with the point first.

Opponent's intent: Thrust the moment you come into reach.

  • Cue: Hands. What is the nearest target an Ochs offers you?
  • Cue: Blade. Where must your cut NOT go?

About this scenario

The is the master cut that breaks . It travels across the line with crossed hands and a wide step, arriving on the opponent's hands or blade from the side where their point cannot follow. This scenario puts you in front of a right Ochs, point on your face, and lets you try the ways in: to the hands, to the blade, from the , or not at all.

The recurring lesson is reach. A Krump that arrives is one of the safest attacks in the system; a Krump that falls short is a commitment with nothing in it.

Learning goals

  • Use the Krumphau against a point-forward guard without walking onto the point.
  • Choose between the hands and the blade as the target, and follow each with the right second action.
  • Use Schrankhut as a position that invites and then beats a thrust.
