The opponent

Student Chooses plainly and telegraphs everything: a feint still looks like a feint. Good for learning to read tells. Fencer Picks attacks that suit the guard you stand in, answers your attacks sensibly, and sometimes hides a feint. Master Reads your habits over the bout and attacks what your usual answer loses to. Feints are well disguised.

Temperament

Cautious Waits in point-forward guards, parries and counters, steps out of trouble. You will have to make the fight. Balanced Attacks when the measure is right and otherwise answers what you do. Resolute Closes and attacks first, presses in the bind, and will trade a hit to land one.

The bout

First to

Every tempo the opponent commits to something you cannot see. You see its tells on the stage: hands, weight, feet, point, distance. Read them, then act. A double hit counts for both.

Rewind, override the opponent and record the bout at any point.
