A cut begun toward one opening and completed at another, so that the opponent's parry goes to the wrong place.

The verse recommends the Fehler against opponents who parry by chasing the blade. Shown to the upper opening, a can be turned to the lower opening on the other side as the parry rises. The feint is a tempo spent on deception, so it is safest when the opponent is already committed to parrying rather than to striking.
